I am a fan of models that are less a model and more a photograph; this exemplifies that ideal. Alex Eylar has also been known to do this, notably here and here, but his approach is often more "take 100 pictures, and 1 might turn out nice" than "one carefully crafted photo." I tried it once as well. These types of creation won't be seen at a convention, they work best as an image. I'd wager this is closer to art than say, some tentacles with a "poem" attached.
