Joining the Kindle club and impromptu recording session

After much deliberation I bit the bullet today and become a member of the Kindle club. Much to everyone's disgust I insisted we go out early to get it which meant that breakfast was delayed! Have to say I am delighted with my purchase and already have it loaded up winsome fab material so I have something to read if I need to en route to Venice and back! The only downside was that I couldn't get the a decent cover for it before we went so that will be something to look forward to when we return.

While chilling out in the afternoon I got a phone call from my old friend Robin Williams (no, not the comedian) asking me if I was up for popping over to his studio to lay down some bass for him. Needless to say I was up for that and had a great time doing the business. Hopefully he'll be happy with the results and I have offered my services for future sessions.

Closet Confidential with Sheri Lee

Sheri Lee is a talented upcoming fashion designer and style blogger. She is currently working on an exciting new commercial line, which will include screen-printed t-shirts, tanks and crop tops. Sheri Lee also has the enviable job of attending South Africa's best fashion events, which she reports on for her blog, Safashiongirl. On today's Closet Confidential, she tells us more about her fun approach to fashion.

What is the inspiration behind your clothing line?

I've been inspired by the wild aspect of youth; Summer road trips, trashing hotel rooms, getting married in Vegas; just causing trouble and making a mess.

As a designer, which celebrity would you to dress?

Juliette Lewis. I like her attitude, she seems to have fun with fashion.

Describe your personal style

Accessory overload and dark meets light, I'm very into contrast. I also like a little 'theme' because I enjoy finding a way to tailor any influence into something subtle enough that's wearable. You can dress 80s for a day, incorporating make up, accessories, sequins, you name it; the fun is figuring out how to translate it into something that is exciting but wearable at the same time.

Who are your favourite designers and why?

I'm into a lot of different styles, I like designers with a a strong edge whether their aesthetic is fun, classic, dark, avant garde, sexy or glamourous. I adore fashion houses like Viktor & Rolf, Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino but I also enjoy whimsical designers like Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Jeremy Scott. Locally I like Clive Rundle and I think Joel Jansen van Vuuren is one to watch.

Best Fashion Trend

Wearing way too many accessories!

Worst Fashion Trend

Fanny packs are awful but I actually own a blue sequin one because I thought I could magically transform it into being cool. I don't think it's going to happen, haha.

Who are your style icons?

I love the blogger Hanna Beth Merjos, she has a kind of glitter vs. grunge look going on. I also love Taylor Momsen and Gwen Stefani.

What is on your fashion wish list?

A tacky tassel tee, House of Holland stockings, a distressed jersey and a bow tie.

What is your most treasured item of clothing?

I have this really simple little black dress from Betsey Johnson, it has subtle buttons down the front so it lengthens the body and it's so easy to wear.

Most extravagant fashion purchase

I bought a classic black Chanel 2.55 bag and I'm so in love with it!

What are the 'must have' items in your closet and why?

I just love dresses because they're an easy template to build onto and really convenient for fast but put-together dressing. You can have the sweetest dress and make it edgy with boots or you can go all saccharine and put a blouse over it.

What is your Fashion Philosophy?

Have fun with fashion and feel beautiful. It's easy to dress safely, it's much more interesting to put something together that might not make sense at first. It's sort of like a challenge and that's where you get the best results from. Rather take risks and look silly sometimes than always look appropriate because it's exciting to put together. Getting ready is half the fun sometimes!

*Special Thanks to Sheri Lee for participating in this interview.

Wishing her all the best with her new line, can't wait to see it in stores.

Kate Middleton Royally Repeats An Outfit

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge has (unfairly) been given the nickname 'The Royal Recycler', after having repeated two outfits this weekend. Katherine was in Scotland with Prince William to attend the wedding of Zara Phillips, daughter of Princess Anne. Zara married English rugby player, Mike Tindall in a simple ceremony on Saturday.

Left: At Zara's wedding, Kate wore an ivory brocade coat dress with a large straw hat and nude pumps.

Right: It so happens that Kate wore the very same coat to another high profile wedding back in 2006. This was at the ceremony of Laura Parker Bowles, who is the daughter of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall - aka Kate's step mother-in-law. Kate wore the coat with a cream and brown feathered fascinator and nude pumps of a different design.

Left: At Zara Phillip's pre-wedding party on the Royal Yacht Britannia, Kate wore a vivid green Diane von Furstenberg 'Maja' dress with belt and buttoned back. She paired it with a black Anya Hindmarch clutch bag.

Right: Kate wore the exact same dress just weeks before during her tour of America. She and Prince William were present at the British-Consul General Reception in Los Angeles. She held onto a leopard print DvF clutch bag. Kate wore the same charm bracelet on both occasions, along with her 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

While Katherine is being harshly scrutinized by the general shallow media on her repetition of outfits; I admire her. In time where the world is in serious financial crisis, she sets out to be a practical and realistic role model. It shows that there is much more to her than just a designer-clad princess. We wear our clothes countless of times - and seeing Kate wear the same outfit just once 'humanizes' her to a level that we all can relate to. She is a sensible Princess with a good head on her shoulders and consistently fabulous clothes on her back.

Papua New Guinea with Aurora

Aurora Expeditions has launched a special commemorative voyage to Papua New Guinea next April, to mark the upcoming 70th anniversary of Australia’s involvement in Papua New Guinea during WWII. The voyage will encompass visits to historical sites from Alotau to Rabaul, ending with a special dawn ANZAC day service in Rabaul.

Lost in Paradise – Our fallen heroes will depart Alotau on 14 April, 2012, landing at key historic sites such as Samarai Island, Linden Harbour, Jacquinot Bay, Tol and Rabaul. Our onboard historian will interpret the significance of these areas and shine a light on the courage and tragedy of Australia’s unsung heroes – The Lark Force – in the Battle of Rabaul, and the ensuing loss of lives, both troops and civilians, on the Montevideo Maru. The voyage will also include opportunities to snorkel the pristine reefs, witness traditional sing-sings and simply take in the beauty of this natural paradise.

For families wishing to explore PNG, Aurora has created Islands of Smiles. Exploring the islands and coastline of New Guinea, this voyage will visit Milne Bay and its surrounding islands, Lababia, Tami and Tuam islands, Madang and the mighty Sepik River. Parents and children alike can expect to be greeted with friendly smiles and a diverse array of vibrant customs through sing sings, complex rituals and spectacular costumes.

Islands of Smiles will depart Alotau on 2 April, 2012, and expeditioners will have the opportunity to explore PNG, either by snorkelling, swimming, kayaking, bird watching, village walks, or sharing a beach football match with playful locals.

Prices for both 13-day expeditions start from AU$5,690 per person quad-share, including all meals on board, shore excursions and lectures. Sea kayaking surcharge is AU$995 and scuba diving stops will be organised on board. Aurora can also organise all flight, accommodation, transfer and pre and post touring in Papua New Guinea.

Saturday working and meeting mum

Today was an interesting one. Toni and I ventured into London on a dual mission. Phase one involved me having to go into work to finish something off as my remote connection had stopped working so my plan from yesterday was scuppered. Toni popped into Starbucks while I got my work sorted. The work took 5 minutes and I spent a further 15 resolving the issue that had stopped my remote connection working.

Once done I popped round to Starbucks to puck up Toni and we headed off to Arrivals at Victoria Coach Station to go and meet mum. We got there a little early so had fun people watching until mum's coach pulled in.

The plan had been to have coffee but we ended up going into Garfunkel's and having a gorgeous meal instead which was most welcome as Toni and I hadn't had breakfast or lunch!

A good recall from Toni meant that our journey home was a lot easier than we had thought it would be. When we go back to Eltham it was time to just chill and chat.

Novidades nos Estaleiros.

Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity Silhouette
O gramado natural do navio que foi batizado de
The Lawn Club

Looks Of The Week

Who What Wear How

My Best & Worst Fashion Picks

Fashion Favourites

TV & radio presenter, Fearne Cotton displays her boho-casual style on the streets of London. She paired a printed top and skirt with dark denim jeggings and a matching cropped jacket. I like her choice of accessories with the tan satchel, stacks of bracelets, zebra print flats and cute floppy hat.

Cat Deeley strolled around a market in Beverly Hills looking lovely in red. The 'So You Think You Can Dance' presenter wore a crimson red macramé maxi dress by River Island, paired with a leopard print clutch, tan strap sandals and aviator sunglasses.

Ashley Tisdale was also spotted out shopping in Beverly Hills. I love how she put this outfit together. Ashley wore a simple grey v-neck tee under a black boyfriend blazer, with Funktional Stardust shorts. Grungy studded black ankle boots, a cream fedora and Chanel bag completed her cute look.

Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera attended the premiere of her new movie, 'Cowboys and Aliens' in San Diego. The dusky beauty wore an intriguing gown from Gucci's Fall 2011 collection. The halter-neck bodice has a textured red rose-petal effect and the bottom is made up of sheer black chiffon.

Fashion Foes

I know that Katy Perry was trying to be quirky at 'The Smurfs' movie premiere, but this dress is ridiculous. Besides that its far too short, it makes her look ditzy with all that glitter, Smurf printed nails and bright blue eye shadow.

Olivia Wilde attended the launch of her Nylon magazine cover in a black jumpsuit. I was disappointed with her entire look, it's so severe. I don't like the fit of the harem style pants, that merges into those peculiar see-through snakeskin mesh boots.

Dita von Teese was in Dallas for a Cointreau cocktail launch. Her satin floral dress may have looked better without the unnecessary addition of the yellow and green sashes, harsh make-up and loud feathered bag.

Anna Paquin wore all white during the HBO Summer Tour. Her dress is infected by far too many circle cutouts. She looks so stylish usually, I don't know what happened here.  My aversion to dots has increased exponentially after seeing this dress.

Last day and Orpheum rehearsal

It was my last day at work today and there was so much to get finished. Thankfully everything came together and I was able to prepare my handover notes. There was just one small thing to finish that I planned to do remotely and so I finally got out of the office at around 19:15.

I then scooted off to Kentish Town to meet the Orpheum mob for a rehearsal at Zed One. Wr kicked things off with Mars, Erin and I having a drink in the pub but we couldn't stomach the live fazz junk that was on offer so headed off to the studio. Once again it was a good rehearsal with things coming together well. We have a target now for looking to get the show out on the road!

Ok..Now a bit of info about my Xander...
His Profile and About him..
Name : Alexander Lee Eusebio
D.O.B : July, 29 1988
Speaks a total of 7 languages. He was born to a Taiwanese father and a Korean mother. He spent his young years in Macau, before moving to the States for study abroad. However, he never lost hope in his dream of becoming a famous singer in the land of his mother, Korea. Macau used to be a portuguese colony until 1999 when Portugal transferred its sovereignty to China. Thus, Macau possesses a very diverse population and has two official languages - Cantonese and Portuguese, not to mention various local dialects. Thus, Alexander was naturally exposed to many different languages in his habitus. He later went on to study Spanish, which was easy because it was a derivative of Portuguese. He also took private lessons in French and Japanese with his sister. So all in all, this amazing, well-versed linguistics genius speaks 7 languages.

Voyage Through The Red Sea

Zegrahm's brand-new Voyage through the Red Sea expedition has been named one of National Geographic Traveler magazine’s “Best Tours of a Lifetime” for 2011 and is one of those experiences well worth seeking out in the cruise world today.

Here's how the tour works:

You explore Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, including the company's first-time visits to the lesser-traveled countries of Sudan and Eritrea. The November 6-22 itinerary is the perfect time to explore this seat of the world’s earliest civilisations with pleasant temperatures ranging from 55 to 85°F and a stable, yet fascinating political environment where a new chapter in the region’s history has literally unfolded within the last year (plus, this comes with the added bonus of fewer crowds at some of the region’s most popular tourist sites).

The voyage combines the Red Sea’s best cultural attractions along with several opportunities to engage in the region’s natural history with snorkeling and diving excursions. Among the many highlights of this award-winning expedition, guests will have the opportunity to:

• Explore the rose-coloured wonders of Petra, the capital of the ancient Nabatean Empire and now a World Heritage Site—even enjoying a candle-lit nighttime walk through the Siq to the Treasury

• Overnight in Luxor, often considered the “world’s greatest open air museum,” to explore its various monuments, temples, and tombs

• Cruise along the Nile in a traditional felucca sailing vessel, savouring lunch and views of the countryside along the way

• Enjoy a walking tour of Jeddah’s well-preserved old city, considered the gateway to Mecca

• Take in traditional daily life as the tour wanders the pathways connecting the old, coral-block buildings of Suakin, Sudan—a major trading stop en route to Mecca

• And snorkel and dive in the shimmering waters of Eritrea’s Dahlak Archipelago, an area renowned for its rich marine life and scenic beauty.

Cover Girls - August 2011

From Catwalk to Cover

Fashion Magazines August 2011

There have been so many interesting magazine covers for August 2011, I couldn't help but share my Top Ten. It makes me wonder, if all these magazines were on the same newsstand...which one would I pick up first?

Kate Moss for Vogue UK. The newly-wed model gazes off in a coral wool dress by Miu Miu, which is covered in an embroidered floral design. The hazy cover shot has a retro feel to it, as does Kate's hair. Marni resin-drop earrings, a brass Diane von Furstenberg cuff and bold red lips add weight to Kates look.

Katie Holmes for Vogue Spain. Katie takes on a fierce but feminine military persona for the cover of Vogue España. Her black long-sleeved lace dress with polo neck is by Lanvin. Black nail varnish, smokey eyes and a leather army cap complete her valiant look.

Mia Wasikowska for Harper's Bazaar, Australia. The actress wears Louis Vuitton for the vintage-styled cover. She poses in a sheer black and white dress with high collar, puff sleeves and a black buttoned corset. Pulled back hair and barely-there make up play off against the complexity of the outfit. She looks so beautiful compared to the 'tortured' runway look.

Olivia Palermo for Shop Til You Drop magazine. This has got to be the most eye catching cover for August 2011. How adorable is Olivia's Sass & Bide dress? It features dozens of layered leather cutouts in warm autumn colours. She wears the dress back-to-front for the cover and minus the belt.

Megan Fox for Elle China. The sultry star wears an all black crepe-wool ensmeble by Emporio Armani. The jumpsuit fits much better on Megan than he runway model. I think the outfit would have had more of an impact against a clean white background, rather than this grassy one. Windswept hair and red-hot lips complete a very polished look.

Miranda Kerr for Cosmopolitan, Australia. The model wears a sexy purple plum bandage dress with v-neck and zip-front, by Herve Leger. The bright turquoise background and Miranda's radiant smile makes this a fun and energetic cover. She looks amazing seven months after she had her baby.

Sarah Jessica Parker for Vogue. The 'Age Issue' sees a smiling SJP on the cover. Her white embossed coat with black accents and leather belt is by Burberry Prorsum. Her hair is pulled back with a hairpiece to the side. I'm finding this cover to be the most insipid. I prefer the runway styling.

Lily Allen for Elle UK. The British singer wears a dress from my favourite Winter collection of 2011, by Dolce & Gabbana. Her star-printed charmeuse dress is contrasted by panels of black lace. Her hair is worn in retro waves and make-up kept minimal. SA's Candice Swanepoel (right) wore the dress on the runway with  a zebra print bag, black socks and white shoes.

Mila Kunis for Flare, Canada. The Russian-American actress wears a salmon coloured dress by Lanvin with volumized neckline and fitted skirt. Her hair is worn completely to the side. The dress on the runway seems over-accessorised compared to Mila's look. Also, the beauty of the neckline is shown off better on the magazine.

Selena Gomez for Elle Mexico. She wears a midnight blue stretch knit tunic and pants by Altuzarra. The bronze belt with plaited detail and tassels is by Gucci. Her wavy locks are covered by a cute Scala Pronto floppy hat. The cover is simple and sophisticated, it's also is more mature look for Selena, which I like.

Which is your favourite cover for August 2011?

A day and a half, pizza and packing

Well that was a day and a half, it just doesn't get any better LOL
Once again the QA department get stitched up by management and much need time is axed from our testing to make way for more development (as is always the way). Even the boss was pissed off today and I've never really seen him get animated!

After work I went over to Toni's and she, Gemima and I drove back to SWF. Gluten free pizza courtesy of Rockit Pizza was accompanied by True Blood and a couple of episodes of Futurama. Then it was time to start packing things for Toni to take back to London in preparation for our holiday in Venice next week!
