Ladakh Trekking

Ladkah, lovingly known as “land of high passes” is one of the most alluring destinations of world. Hemmed by two of the world's greatest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, it lies crosswise to two others-the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range, Ladakh is a distinct place whose beauty is unmatched to others.

There are very few places in the world whose topographical and climatic features equals to Ladakh. Lies in the Great Himalayan rain shadow, Ladakh receives no monsoon during the summer season but gets excessive snowfalls throughout its long (November–Late May) winter. Due to this unique climatic condition, till few years back Ladakh was a considered among one of the hidden treasures of Northern India. But, with the passage of time, people from various parts of world visit Ladakh to unveil the endless beauties of this “Little Tibet”.

Trekking Adventure In Ladakh:

This barren mountainous region of Jammu and Kashmir is a paradise for adventure enthusiasts as the region is dotted with high mountainous terrains which have altitudes ranging from 9,000 feet (2,750 m) at Kargil to 25,170 feet (7,672 m) at Saser Kangri in the Karakoram. Ladakh has some of our country's most fun-filled trekking routes. For the purpose of Ladakh can be divided into three regions-the Indus valley, the Zanskar valley and the area around Kargil.

Trekking in Kargil: Kargil in Ladakh region is considered among one of the famous destination for trekking in India. Kargil, a small town with cobbled streets surrounded by apricot groves, lies just behind the Zoli La Pass. After a three to four day treks from Sanko to Drass via Umba and on Sanko to Mulbek via the Wakka La Pass at a height of 4, 930 m, one can behold the excellent views of glistening Himalayas.

Trekking In Indus Valley: Located at an altitude of 3, 500 m above the sea level, the beautiful Indus valley of Ladakh region is sand-wiched between the Zanskar Range on its South and the Ladakh Range on its North. This picturesque valley plays a significant role in Ladakh's history and culture. Leh, the capital of Ladakh valley falls in this region. A major section of Ladakh's population resides along the Indus river. Several Buddhist monasteries, tranquil villages, colorful bazaars and fairs and festivals are the main attractions of Indus valley.

Trekking In Zanskar Valley: Another famous trekking site in Ladakh region is Zanskar valley. It is a 300 km long valley bounded by mountains which are only accessible by high passes. Situated in the inner Himalayas, Zanskar valley is higher than most areas of Ladakh. Despite of harsh climatic condition, Zanskar valley woos lots of trekkers every year. The main attractions of this valley includes twin peaks of Nun-Kun, its monasteries and its extremely rugged but exhilarating landscape etc.

Famous Trekking Routes Of Ladakh: Some of the famous trekking routes of Ladakh includes Spituk to Markha Valley, Lamayuru Gompa to Chilling and Likir to Temisgam, Stok Kangri trek, Nubra Valley Trek, Trans Zanskar trek, Rupshu Valley trek and much more.

Best Time For Trekking In Ladakh: The most favorable time for trekking adventure in Ladakh begins from mid June and lasts till mid October.
