Bekal 14 kms from Kasargode, is one of the most picturesque of the Kerala beaches. The exotic beach surroundings along with the unspoilt white sands are simply ideal for spending time in the complete relaxation. The major attraction of the Bekal is the 300 years old fort located here. The beach is promoted as one of the biggest tourists attraction in Kerala. The beach is the perfect combination of nature where you can enjoy lush gorgeous greens, whispering sea breeze and murmuring beach activities. The best season to plan out the trip to Bekal lies between the month of August and March.
Bekal Fort :
Located 130 feet above the sea level, Bekal Fort is the largest as well as the best preserved fort in Kerala. Built by Shivappa Naik, it is the 300 year old fort. Later on it was occupied by the Haider Ali in 1763 AD and than by the British. At the entrance of the fort is the Anjaneya temple and in the middle is the observatory tower. From the observatory tower you get the magnificent view of the Arabian Sea. Just outside the Fort is the mosque built by Tipu Sultan. Some of the nearby attraction here are Pallikere beach, Bekal Hole aqua park, Kappil beach, Chandragiri fort, Chandragiri Cruise, Anandashram, Ananthapura lake temple, Valiyaparamba backwaters (an enchanting resort fed by four rivers and dotted with numerous little islands) and Ranipuram.
Beach Activities :
You have plenty pf option to choose from, while being at Bekal beach. You can take a nature walk or indulge in the sun bathing at the beach. You can also make a visit to the nearby village and get an insight of the traditional village culture.
