One hello and a goodbye

Well a belated Happy New Year to you all, as you have probably sen it's been a bit sparse around here recently with few postings since the Christmas break but fear not 2012 sees me with a new vigour and spring in my step!
Since the break there have been a few absences as well none more that the death of Eve Arnold, Even if you didn't know her name you would have know her work. Her shots of Marylin Monroe traveled the globe, her candid free shooting style showing a different side to famous faces.

There is a wealth of information out there on her but if you have the chance pick up her book 'FlashBack the 50's'   it is well worth it, in the mean time here is a selection of her work showing her versatility,  displaying the humour of Bresson and the story telling of Robert Frank.

Happy New Year 2010

As the world bid farewell to 2009 and happily welcomed in the new year, we were all hopeful for the futures of ourselves, our families, our friends, our nations and the planet itself. 2009 was a tumultuous year everywhere you turned so as we celebrate the arrival of a clean slate on which to write our individual and global futures, may the hopes we hold most dear become the reality in our lives.

As we move through the constant barrage of the sky-is-falling economic forecasts and the “who-did-what” and “who-didn’t-do what” arguments of the news show talking heads, and in the face of the sad and ongoing evidence of how man can be unkind to man, let us not forget that what is always on the other side of the equation - and universally so - is the love and goodness within us all. As a smile is universal, so is the heart. We all care about our loved ones, our neighbors and our nations and this love and caring are the compelling, connecting elements in all mankind. We should hold this power in our hearts and minds and never let it go.

So happy new year to you all and may 2010 bring a fun and prosperous future with much love to spare.

I found some fun internet photos from the beginning of 2010. My congratulations to all the photographers and artists whose works I have found, admired and used here - with many thanks for your great talent.
