Ajmer Rajasthan Tour

Ajmer has enjoyed the great historical legacy. Stuck amidst the isolated hills of the Aravallis, Ajmer is the pool of hidden treasures, beautiful in each of its reflection. Ajaypal Chauhan founded the city in the 7th century, who constructed a fort on the hilltop and named the place 'Ajayameru' or unconquerable hill. Till the end of the 12th century, Ajmer was the major center of Rajput dynasty.

Legendary Prithviraj Chauhan lost the city to his biggest enemy - Mohammed Ghauri, after defeating him for the consecutive 13 times. Later on in the 16th century, Akbar made it a part of the great Mughal Empire. Today, Ajmer is famous for the Dargah Sharif - the final resting place of the Sufi saint - Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. It is the main attraction of Ajmer and is considered as the Mecca or Medina for the Muslims of south Asia.

Mughal Emperor Akbar used to make an annual tribute at Dargah Sharif from Agra. It is now a biggest pilgrimage center in India. People of all faith come here to seek eternal blessings of Sufi to get relive from all the pains and miseries of life.

Tourists can plan out the pilgrimage tour to Ajmer Sharif, during the Urs festival to rejoice in the springtime, an event organized to celebrate the death anniversary of the saint. The Urs falls on the1st to 6th day of the Islamic month of Rajab, in the month of September or October.

Make a visit to Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra - a relic of what was once the largest mosque in the country. It is named as such as it took only two and a half days to complete its construction. Another major attraction here is Taragarh Fort which was earlier used as the first military base during the reign of the Mughals in the country.

Jaipur (302 km from Ajmer) is the nearest airport.
Rail - Ajmer is well connected to all themajor cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, by the regular train service.
Road - There is a well-connected network of buses that ply to and fro from Ajmer connecting it to major towns and cities in north India.
