Poca and Poca Winter 2012

In order for me to get to Poland, I would have to pay over 600 Euros to fly 11 hours, covering a distance of 8720km. But I think all that may just be worth it to shop Poca and Poca's Winter 2011-12 Collection. Designer Karolina Gniewek brings her unique vision to this enchanting brand, creating gorgeous and girly clothes with a retro twist. Each delightful piece is handmade in Poland, ensuring that special care and the highest quality is maintained.

For this season, Poca and Poca have brought together a delectable range of outfits in sugary sweet shades and ladylike looser-fit shapes. Ruffles and bows are a salient feature, adding an extra dose of prettiness to each piece. Key looks include frilly jumpsuits, high-waisted trousers, a sequined ape, flirty cotton dresses, silk blouses and alluring puffed shorts.

It's refreshing to see single toned fabrics, and an absence of prints. It makes these ensembles all the more timeless and versatile. A mini black bow tie and large hair bows enhance the charming, feminine theme. If Alice in Wonderland fell down a rabbit hole into 2012 and ever got tired of wearing that blue dress, she could always try on one of these endearing outfits.

The Many Coats Of Pippa Middleton

Pippa Middleton
Winter Street Style

Pippa Middleton is hailed as a Brit It-Girl and fashion icon, admired for her sophisticated style and graceful demeanor. She has become widely known, along with her sister Kate Middleton, for their timeless style that is easy to attain. Pippa demonstrates that looking polished isn't always about high-end labels or high heels. The simplest of styles can be the most appealing.

For Winter 2011, Pippa has been sporting a variety of elegant coats, in different shapes, fabrics and colours. Pippa is an expert at making optimal use of her accessories, which is something we can all relate to. Her no-fail formula for a dashing winter's day work outfit are: A classic coat, black tights or skinny jeans, a deluxe leather handbag, knee-high boots and a voguish pair of Chanel sunglasses. And she gets it right every time. Here is some street style inspiration featuring the many coats from the closet of Pippa Middleton.

1. Pippa colours a grey winter's day in a bright blue double-breasted Ted Baker trench coat over black leggings and Russell and Bromley black boots. She accessorizes with a heart print Beulah London scarf and Modalu bag.
2. Pippa rules in red, with a collarless coat by Zara. French Connection skinny jeans, a brown croc Modalu bag and tan suede boots complete her cozy look.
3. She wears a chic tuxedo style jacket in royal blue with black velvet lapels & collar, by Sara Berman. It's paired with a simple black dress, tights, ankle boots & her favourite black bag.
4. Pippa put on a cute blue, black and grey checked coat over skinny jeans and her Russell and Bromley boots. Customary bag of choice by Modalu.

5. Pippa wears an army green Fay duffle coat with tan leather buckle detail. Underneath she has on a printed Alice by Temperley top. Her tan boots & Modalu bag are added to this look.
6. Her zip-up black coat is from Zara, teamed with a leopard print scarf, her much-loved tan boots and a tan Modalu bag.
7. Pippa is wrapped up in a dark brown Susannah robe coat, carrying a two-tone Loewe hangbag and wearing her comfy black boots.
8. Another military green coat, this one in a different style, by Reiss. It's worn with a leopard print scarf, Loewe bag and her trusty flat tan boots.

9. Ms Middleton looks smart in a linen blend charcoal grey trench by Reiss, with black sheer tights, black ankle boots and Modalu oyster croc bag. Her faux fur stole adds a luxurious element to this outfit.
10. Her adorable heart print grey and black dress is by Markus Lupfer, worn under a chic Zara blazer. She carries the same croc bag and wears Nicholas Kirkwood flats.
11. Pippa looks lovely in a slate grey wool coat with clinched waist and black edging. Her Russell and Bromley knee-high boots and Modalu bag make another appearance.
12. A grey A-line duffle coat with puff collar by Fay worn over a matching grey dress, with opaque black tights and black boots.

Pippa may only be as famous as that bridesmaid dress she wore to Prince William and Kate's wedding, but even if she wasn't a media made celebrity - if she were just a stranger that passed you by on a sidewalk somewhere, you would probably turn around and think, "Well, that's one stylish girl."

Hoss Intropia Winter 2011

Spain has given us some remarkable fashion brands; Zara, Bershka, Pull & Bear and Mango, each with their own massive cult following. Hoss Intropia is another one of those inspiring brands, but unlike the contemporary feel of the others, this fashion franchise marches to the beat of it's own folkloric drum.

For Fall/Winter 2011, Hoss Intropia paints a bohemian picture in earthy shades of brown, cream, tan, khaki and black. The attention to unconventional detailing is what distinguishes the brand from its counterparts. They create their own unique prints and focus on innovative cuts, hand-beading and embroidery and mixing textures, using quality fabrics. The collection has the charm of a romantic countryside, with military-inspired masculine tailoring. Each eclectic ensemble tells a story of sophisticated style and laid-back elegance.

I could easily go into a Hoss Intropia store and purchase my entire Winter wardrobe all in one go. I particularly love how each outfit is styled in this photo shoot. It shows off the versatility of the individual pieces, and how creatively it can be worn. All the shoes, bags, gloves, hats and accessories are also part of this incredible collection. The range is so extensive, their shapes are flattering, their fabrics luxurious, and their style refined. Hoss Intropia's Winter collection is kindled with originality, and a beauty that is honest and endearing.

A Word From The Designer

Zahra says that her love of sewing and design began at a very young age. What inspires her the most as a designer is people.

She says "I can get lost for hours watching people pass by, the way they are dressed, the way they carry the things they wear. There is nothing more inspiring to me than street fashion, the combination of colour and texture, the endless array of people's choices of clothing and accessores in their everyday life as they go about their days. Whether it be for work or fun or a quick run to the local cafe or market.

With a few of her fab outfits already featured in Elle and Fairlady magazine, Zahra has a bright and long future ahead in fashion.

Garments from Mishah Designs are available from selected boutiques at the V&A Waterfront, Canal Walk and Gardens Centre. The range is also sold at Cquinz at 182c Main Road Sea Point, Cape Town. For more information, you can contact Mishah Designs on (021) 434 7505. Alternately, visit their website or blog, which is updated by Zahra.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mishah Designs expand, with more stockists in the rest of country. All the best.

Pixie Lott for Lipsy 2011

Lipsy Spring/Summer 2011

featuring Pixie Lott

UK brand Lipsy is a favourite amongst stylish South African girls. Their line yields young, fun and flirty dresses for a snazzy night out on the town. For the Spring/Summer 2011 collection, Lipsy has expanded their range to retro-chic daywear. British singer Pixie Lott lent her design ideas to the brand; creating two distinct, feminine lines. There's the relaxed and romantic 'California Dreaming' and the sexy and spirited 'Pixie Party'.

The colours are soft and girly with pretty pinks, peaches and flowery prints. The silhouettes are floaty and ultra-feminine. There are delicate day dresses, floral maxis, sundresses and ruffled jumpsuits. Pixie wears subtle make-up and loose natural waves for these country casual looks.

The cheery campaign was shot in sunny Ibiza, Spain. The dresses are styled with cute floppy hats, long necklaces, skinny belts and fresh flowers. The 'California Dreaming' collection has a Bohemian appeal to it, offering dresses in light fabrics, adorned with crochet and embroidery.

The second line, 'Pixie Party' is differentiated by the punchy colours, sexier shapes and sparkly accents. Pixie's make-up is amped up for this part of the shoot, with her platinum locks styled in side-swept waves. She is a party princess in the turquoise tiered dress and hot pink asymmetrical mini. If you're not one for colour, opt for a classic little black or white Lipsy dress.

Lispy's Spring/Summer Collection takes you confidently and fashionably from free-spirtied daywear to glamourous cocktail wear. There is an outfit for every occasion - a picnic in a park, trip to the mall, music festival, dinner date and girl's night out.

Who Wore the Black Maxi Skirt Better?

Who Wore It Better?

Olivia vs Rosie

Olivia Wilde and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were both photographed wearing a black maxi skirt this week. Olivia looked chic in a sleeveless white V-neck tee and black gypsy skirt by Rag + Bone. She paired it with black sandals and striking red lips. I like her simple and elegant updo. Rosie wore her high-waisted fitted black maxi with a beige V-neck top. She carries an Alexander Wang bag and wears suede boots.

Olivia looks great but I prefer Rosie's look, due to the fit of her skirt.

Which do you prefer?

Burberry Blue Label - Spring/Summer 2011

Burberry Blue Label

Spring/Summer Collection 2011

Burberry Blue Label has created a Brit chic, high street fashion collection for Spring/Summer 2011. The centerpiece of the range is this season's trendy trench coat, seen in different colours and fabrics. The conservative colour palette includes deep red, navy blue, creamy beige and black. Aimed towards the younger and modern urban diva, this range merges utilitarian themes with classic silhouettes.

The grown-up school girl look takes form in mini pleated skirts paired with crisp white shirts. No Burberry collection would be complete without their signature checkered print and khaki coloured trench coat.

These laid-back looks are easy-to-wear, smart and comfortable. Individually, all these pieces are closet staples that can be worn endlessly. Cropped trousers, denims, stripes, classic shirts and blazers. Chunky platforms, large totes and poorboy caps act as ideal accessories.

Pretty plaid dresses are layered with leather bikers and tailored jackets. The trench coat with metallic buttons is such a versatile piece. It can be worn over dresses, tights, jeans or on it's own, as shown in red in the middle.

Burberry Blue Label is such a lovely clothing line, it's disappointing that it is only available in Japan. Someone needs to import to us here in South Africa. Here's hoping Stuttafords' brand manager will read this.

When I think of comfortable, beautiful and laid-back fashion, Tashkaya comes to mind. The eclectic Tashkaya line represents Natasha's international influences and her passion for high-quality, timeless pieces of clothing.

This winter, Natasha combines luxurious fabrics with simplistic designs; creating a collection that is wearable and stylish without being fussy. I admire her design aesthetic, which remains true to her individuality and Boho-mod sense of style. Natasha doesn't emulate international runway trends, she creates her own.

A Forever New Winter

Forever New

Autumn/Winter Collection 2011

Australian brand Forever New has firmly established a huge fashion following in South Africa. Since the launch at the end of 2009, the franchise has successfully expanded, with 11 stores countrywide.

It is Forever New's romantic and youthful design aesthetic that captivates shoppers everywhere. Their Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection follows that same aesthetic, with pretty peaches and cream colours, divine dresses and warm winter essentials.

The 2011 collection has been inspired by the Oscar-winning movie, Black Swan and thearical ballet such as the Tchaikovsky classic, Swan Lake. The 'Enchanted Princess' range glamorizes winter basics with delicate lace, faux fur, scalloped hemlines and a mix of light and heavier fabrics.

The casual line of the collection, entitled 'Bohemian Rhapsody' features maxi skirts, chunky knits, lace shift dresses, faux fur gilets and 3/4 pea coats. Outfits were paired with different styles of hats, gloves, boots and neutral coloured handbags.

Wispy prom-style dresses in creamy whites and soft pinks drifted delicately across the runway. The cropped faux fur jacket is an ideal cover-up for chilly evenings. Peep-toe heels, pearls and clutch bags underlined the feminine look.

Most of the pieces can be worn as separates. The nude lace dress is teamed with a simple black belted coat. The metallic silver playsuit can be toned down with a woollen wrap or dressed up with printed stockings. The sheer pleated black maxi skirt is worn with an embellished white top and ballet flats. The grey jacket can be worn over dresses, tailored pants and skirts. The full black ensemble works well as both casual and formal wear.

Modern vintage meets glamour girl in the enchanting Forever New winter range.

Wild Fig - Autumn/Winter 2011

Wild Fig

Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection

South African fashion label Wild Fig expressed simple femininity in their Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection. Beautiful fabrics combine with ladylike designs and soft colours to create a sophisticated and refined range of clothing.

50's style dresses were accentuated with pretty bows at the waist. The style of dresses are girly, however the fabrics in contrast are not. So you can wear them even if you're not a fan of the ultra-feminine trend. The gray knitted dresses would be a great addition to your winter wardrobe; either worn on their own or over tights.

Tasteful fabrics, frills, lace and matt satins added character to the beautifully designed outfits. Sheer printed stockings and floral fascinators complemented the feminine theme. The Wild Fig 2011 collection is an unpretentious range of clothes, providing relaxed glamour without the unnecessary ostentation.

This stunning range is available at Salvation in Menlyn and Rosebank, Johannesburg. Selected pieces will also be available at French Kisses in Knysna, Ques in Bloemfontein and Dell'cious Clothing in Bryanston.
