Tuesday Thrills - Franchi Clutch Bags

As this is the first 'Tuesday Thrills' post for 2012, I wanted to start on a glamorous note, which is something designer Franco Franchi is familiar with. His range of exquisite clutch bags are destined to accessorize the 'little black dresses' of the world with their refined splendor. Based in Florence, Franchi creates sparkling showpieces made from the best Italian leather, Oriental silks and Swarovski crystals.

Founded in 1995, it is only recently that Franchi Handbags have branched out into clutch bags, with a trendier market in mind. The design team creates bags with simple shapes, its magnetic appeal lies in the finer detailing. Decorative floral and studded trims, slinky mesh, gleaming gemstones and plush satin.

Adding one of these clutches to your cocktail dress, prom gown or a tailored suit will transform your entire look. Even brides and their bridesmaids need somewhere stylish to carry their lipgloss. A Franchi clutch can be used to dress up a pair of jeans and heels for a girl's night out or a romantic date. It's the perfect size to keep all your out-on-the-town essentials. These are some pieces from the current collection.

1. Andrea in black. Leather and mesh with twist lock and silver chain handle. $275/R2239
2. Valerie in pewter. Boxy leather clutch with shiny mesh detail and gemstone lock. $228/R1856
3. Sharon in black. Crossbody leather drawstring bag with gold stripes and studded detail. Three other colour combinations available. $165.99/R1351

6. Tess Foldover in gold. My favourite choice, which has a woven leather and ruffle-pleat design. It has a fold-over flap with magnetic lock. Also available in black for a more casual look. $150.99/R1229.50

7. Tania Nappa in gold. Luxe quilted leather bag with crystal rhinestones and chain handle. $132.99/R1082

8. Kaly Glitter in gold. A shimmery leather clutch with floral motif. $137.99/R1123

9. Taylor in Navy. A change from black, this navy blue box-clutch is covered in delicate fabric rosettes, with a gemstone lock. Five other colours available. $161/R1311

10. Lorna Raggeta bow clutch in Red. A crimson rectangular shaped clutch in smooth satin, with cute bow detail. $161/R1311

Tuesday Thrills - Prada Jewellery

Prada Spring/Summer 2012

Jewellery Collection

If you've been saving up all year for something uniquely special that glistens with precious gems, look no further. Prada has launched a limited edition capsule jewellery collection for Spring 2012. The exquisite new range is inspired by 'sweetness', as described by design maestro Miuccia Prada. And there is plenty of sugary sweet sparkle to go around.

A delicate rose design forms the axis upon which the entire collection revolves. Brooches, bracelets, lavish necklaces & eye-catching earrings all carry the floral leifmotif, resonating feminine grandeur. These ornate pieces have been intricately crafted from an unusual mix of materials including resin, rhinestones, leather & Swarovski crystals. The jewels convey a feeling of nostalgia, and remain playful yet glamourous at the same time. The rose-drop earrings will work just as well with your favorite summer dress, as an elegant evening gown.

The colours used in the collection reflect the designs Prada presented in their Spring/Summer 2012 runway show. Varying shades of red, lacquered black, earthen ivory, pistachio green and rose blossom pink. And of course, incandescent crystal to string it all together.

Above: The opulent collection as it was first seen on the runway less than 3 months ago. It is now available exclusively from Prada boutiques worldwide. The prices range from $350/£195/R2800. A worthy investment, don't you think?

Make Your Own Lace Necklace

The Savvy Girls Guide
To Making Your Own Necklace

I am one of the least crafty people you can find, so when I wanted to do a DIY accessory post, I knew I had to get the expertise and advice of the creative and kind Nadia van der Mescht from Cupcake Couture. Nadia is a South African based arts and crafts designer, specializing in exclusive wedding accessories, exquisite vintage-inspired corsages and stationery. She creates one of a kind pieces according to your personal taste and wedding day theme. Here Nadia shows us how easy it is to make a beautiful and trendy lace necklace.

Step 1 & 2
Step 1:
Gather what you will need:
A piece of lace – you can find some at a haberdashery or even search for a vintage piece in your grannies sewing box.
Pliers
A small, sharp pair of scissors
Small jump rings:  available from most craft or bead shops
Chain:
Lobster clasp

Step 2
Put the jump rings onto the ends of the chain using the pliers.

Step 3 & 4

Step 3Make a small hole in the lace.  Make it slightly away from the edge so that the jump ring doesn’t rip through.

Step 4
Thread the jump ring with the chain attached through the lace.  Do the same on both sides.

 Step 4 & 5

Step 5
Pull the chain to a peak at the centre this will allow you to find the middle easily.  Bend open a link and add the lobster clasp and jump ring.

Step 6:
This shows how it should look once done.

And Voila!

All done! An easy DIY with a pretty result

Special thanks to Nadia for her lending her time and skills to this guest post.
I hope it will inspire you to create your own unique neckpiece.

Jimmy Choo Winter 2011

Jimmy Choo Bags & Shoes

Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

Jimmy Choo's Fall/Winter 2011 collection has already made countless red carpet appearances, thanks to shoe-loving socialites and actresses. The latest range is every bit as glamourous as we could expect, citing a 70's French film noir inspiration. A balance is maintained between wearable winter boots and staggeringly high heels. There are even a few ballet flats thrown in for good measure.

The craftsmanship is exquisite; beautiful shapes are sculpted from luxurious fabrics like velvet, suede, leather and lace. Metallics and leopard print are also a common theme. Besides for the conventional black and nudes, there are sumptuous sandals present in opulent jewel tones. I've been spellbound by the embellished evening sandals, which glitter with crystal covered mesh. Each gorgeous pair of heels is accompanied by a matching belt and handbag. I like the red and black box leather quilted ones. Which are your favourites from this collection?

Have you gotten your cheque book out yet? These heavenly pairs of heels are available for purchase from jimmychoo.com

One of my favourite accessories is a pretty scarf. There are so many wears to wear them and a well-matched, beautifully draped scarf can brighten up any outfit. When it comes to designer scarves, Theodora and Callum are the brand to have. Based in New York, this design duo are creatively influenced by exotic cultures and locations like Bali, Morocco, Turkey, India and the Mediterranean. There is also a line of 'Wearable Art' scarves, that are all crafted, printed and designed by hand. The styles and prints are so distinct and unique, that you can spot a T&C scarf anywhere. Royal Wedding Hats

Elaborate hats and fascinators were the essential accessory at today's Royal Wedding.
VIP guests wore many versions of the headpiece, from the stylish to the outright insane.

Top Row:

  • Princess Eugenie wears a bold blue headpiece with purple flowers and a spray of white feathers. Princess Beatrice wears an outrageous structural hat in beige. Did she borrow it from Lady Gaga? Both royal disasters are by milliner Philip Treacy.

  • Spain's Princess Letizia matches her dress to her sweet pink tulle-topped hat.

  • Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece wore a light blue Marie-Antoinette inspired headpiece, decorated with rosettes.

  • Victoria Beckham opted for an oval pillbox hat with twisted accents in navy blue.

  • Princess Victoria of Sweden looks classy in a simple coral wide-brimmed straw hat.

Bottom Row:

  • Lady Frederick Windsor dons a sculpted navy blue hat with loops and twirls.

  • Spanish beauty Miriam Gonzalez Durantez wore an exotic floral creation in orange. She is the wife of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

  • British socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson looks ridiculous in this bright blue tear-shaped hat. Can she even see properly? She is accompanied by her sister Santa,  who wore a flamboyant floral nest.

  • Royal bride-to-be Zara Phillips holds on to her larger-than-life black hat with large flower attached to one side.

  • Chancellor George Osbourne's wife, Frances wore an elaborate black and white feathered fascinator.

Dolce & Gabbana - Winter Collection 2011

Dolce & Gabbana

Autumn/Winter Collection 2011

I had stars in my eyes (literally), when I saw the Dolce & Gabbana runway show on FTV. Stars and musical notes have never looked this grown up. The Italian designers have turned this unexpected punk-rock print into high-end fashion. Add the essential D&G animal print and sparkle, and you have an exuberant, sexy and harmonious collection for Winter 2011.

Masculine vs Feminine

The two main themes of the show alternated between masculine and feminine designs. The colours were basic black and white, with some grey thrown in. Suits had tailored or oversized coats with large collars and lower-rise, slimmer-fitting pants. The masculine looks were enhanced with trilbies, suspenders, vests and ties. Feminine dresses were form-fitting in stretch charmeuse, lace and sheer star-print fabrics.

Chiffon and Shimmery Shades

Long chiffon dresses in yellow, turquoise and orange with pussy cat bows elevated the feminine theme. Another prominent feature on the runway was sequins - sequined dresses, tuxedo jackets, trousers and blazer lapels. Vivid purple, deep teal, gold and metallic grey added some colour to the catwalk.

The Accessories

The jewellery was a continuation of the pop-rock music theme with star-shaped earrings and neckpieces. Miniature pouches were worn on waistbands. Animal print, paillettes, chains and piano keys adorned clutches and leather handbags. Pointed-toe heels in bright shades and prints were worn with ankle socks. Brogues were given a make-over with neon colours, leopard print and sequins.

Blake Lively For Chanel Handbags

Chanel Mademoiselle Handbag Collection 2011

Featuring Blake Lively

Blake Lively has come a long way since we first saw her in The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants. In the movie she played a soccer playing, tank-top wearing tomboy. A far cry from the stylish Serena van der Woodsen we all know on Gossip Girl. These days, Blake is not only a style icon, but also the face of Chanel's Mademoiselle Handbag Campaign for 2011.

This upper-east side mademoiselle is the latest muse of designer Karl Lagerfeld, who created the line with her in mind. The mood of the photo shoot is dusky and minimalistic, so that optimal focus is placed on the bags. The collection sees a modern take on the classic Chanel bag.

This quilted wonder is a timeless and high-end accessory, perfectly suited for both casual and formal attire. All the bags in the range have a rounded trapeze shape and are available in red, deep blue, gray, black and white. The glossy red one has my name on it :)

Tuesday Thrills - Victoria Beckham Eyewear

Sunglasses Spring/Summer 2011

by Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham has had a far more successful career as a fashion designer than a solo artist. Besides for just denim, dresses and handbags, she has now extended her design expertise to sunglasses. Her Spring/Summer 2011 collection features a chic and diverse range of sunglasses.

All pairs are hand-made and have a classic, yet modern appeal. There are styles to suit all tastes and face shapes, from aviators and wayfarers to square and retro designs. Aside from basic black, earthy colour has been added to the range in moss green, gray and taupe.

1. Perfect Square Smoke - A transparent gray crystal frame with graduated brown lens.

2. 18 Carat Gold Classic Aviator - Limited edition gold-metal framed aviator with a layered 18 carat gold lens.

3. Modern Cat Black - A classic black cat-eye frame with solid black lens. Very Audrey Hepburn.

4. Silver Visor - Silver wrapped frame with graduated brown visor lens.

5. Modern Cat - A light gray lamé cat-eye frame with mirrored gray lens.

6. Classic Aviator Midnight - Simple metal frame with tonal purple mirrored lens. Very hip.

7. Silver Wayfarer - A white and silver acetate frame with dark solid lens.

8. Large 'V' Taupe - A taupe coloured oversized frame with graduated lens and signature 'v' shaped brow.

These sunnies are stylish and provide 100% UV protection. I like 3 for a timeless look, 2 for some shine and 6 to jazz things up. The sunglasses sell from R2 440 to R5 500 on Polyvore
