Shoe Art Imitates Life
I found this creative, shoe-tastic drawing while surfing the Net today. Each image depicts the designer's style so perfectly, with a whimsical spin. Based on just the designs, I'd like a pair of those Viktor & Rolf fantasy pink heels. I wonder how it would translate in reality?
* I couldn't find any artist credits, if you have any idea, please let me know.

Tuesday Thrills - Shoes by L.A.M.B
Gwen Stefani's fashion line L.A.M.B has No Doubt (excuse the pun) been one of the most successful in comparison to her other singer-cum-designer peers. Always admired for her eclectic style, Gwen brings her rockstar edge and innovative sensibility to the range. She isn't a follower of trends, she begins her own. Gwen's personality is expressed through her clothes, a trait which she has lovingly passed onto the L.A.M.B range.
L.A.M.B shoes are anything but dainty. These hip pairs of heels make an impact with their modern designs, urban curves and chunky shapes. Neutral colours are of preference, with the odd strap of colour thrown in. The latest collection is an extension of Gwen's 2012 clothing line, with a marked tribal influence and essential animal prints. L.A.M.B shoes are not made for shy strolling, they are intended for self-assured strides.

Must Love Louboutins 2012
Christian Louboutin
Spring/Summer Shoes 2012
Christian Louboutin sets to impress the fashion-loving masses with his latest collection of exquisite designer shoes. The beauty of having even just one pair of these glamourous shoes, is that it can be worn with anything, anywhere, anytime. I think that's the magic of the 'Louboutin heel'. Celebrities and style icons wear them on and off the red carpet, with a pair of jeans or with a fancy evening gown.
For Spring 2012, Mr Louboutin interprets the trendy wedge heel with a sexy hint of animal print. Sophisticated neutrals are elevated by wooden platforms and plush leather. Heels are bejeweled and spiked for a ritzy rock look. See-through plastic takes on a posh appeal. Ethnic patterns are ornately beaded and embroidered onto handcrafted heels. Feast your eyes on these decorative little foot ornaments...
The red and turquoise beaded pair is on my wish list. Which one is on yours?

Tuesday Thrills - Jessica Simpson Shoes
Jessica Simpson may have gained fame due to her magnetic singing voice, but these days, it's her fashion line, the Jessica Simpson Collection that's receiving all the attention. Jimmy Choo Winter 2011
Jimmy Choo Bags & Shoes
Fall/Winter 2011 Collection
Jimmy Choo's Fall/Winter 2011 collection has already made countless red carpet appearances, thanks to shoe-loving socialites and actresses. The latest range is every bit as glamourous as we could expect, citing a 70's French film noir inspiration. A balance is maintained between wearable winter boots and staggeringly high heels. There are even a few ballet flats thrown in for good measure.
The craftsmanship is exquisite; beautiful shapes are sculpted from luxurious fabrics like velvet, suede, leather and lace. Metallics and leopard print are also a common theme. Besides for the conventional black and nudes, there are sumptuous sandals present in opulent jewel tones. I've been spellbound by the embellished evening sandals, which glitter with crystal covered mesh. Each gorgeous pair of heels is accompanied by a matching belt and handbag. I like the red and black box leather quilted ones. Which are your favourites from this collection?
Have you gotten your cheque book out yet? These heavenly pairs of heels are available for purchase from jimmychoo.com

Tuesday Thrills - FitFlop Frou
FitFlop Footwear
'Get a workout while you walk'
Getting fit for summer does not require any effort thanks to FitFlop. The wise minds behind this footwear brand have created shoes that tone and tighten your legs as you walk. The secret lies in the 'Microwobbleboard' technology that is placed in the wedge-shaped sole of the shoe, which causes a 'floating' effect called the 'Freefoot360'. This assists in improving and maintaining good posture, and also reduces pressure and exertion on your knees and ankles.
It's no wonder FitFlop was awarded the 'Footwear Brand of the Year' at the Drapers Footwear Awards in London earlier this year.
The FitFlop provides me with the perfect excuse to skip the gym. Walking around in a pair helps burn more calories than an ordinary shoe. It's also exceptionally comfortable, just like walking on air. The ideal antidote to a day of stumbling in heels.
The latest stylish and trendy addition to the FitFlop range is the Frou:
The Frou sandal will fit perfectly into your summer wardrobe with it's pretty floral design and functional colours. It has layered suede ruffles and contains the same unique toning technology as all the other shoes in the FitFlop range. The fashionable Frou will work well with a jeans and t-shirt or a feminine dress or skirt. It is available in a versatile, beige shaded Pebble, a deep pink Fuschine and jewel toned Indigo. The recommended retail price is R899.
For more information on this lovely pair and others, visit www.fitflop.co.za or contact
(021) 510 4428. FitFlop's are available nationwide, you can find a store near you by clicking on the 'Find Retailers' tab on their website. Getting fit has never been easier or more stylish.

Manolo Blahnik Winter Shoes 2011
Manolo Blahnik
Autumn/Winter Collection 2011-12
The Manolo Blahnik Winter 2011-12 range is a mix of unusual, classic and slightly outlandish pairs of shoes. The collection is inspired by various themes, including the literary works of Leo Tolstoy and Miguel de Cervantes, the surrealism of Salvador Dali paintings and also, Moorish architecture. Each shoe is like a piece of art, diligently sculpted and painted to perfection.
Blahnik makes use of exotic fabrics and interesting textures like velvets, fur, animal prints, tweed, metallic leather, fringing and suede. The colour scheme starts out with neutrals like black, brown and grey, then surges into a circus of bright colours like cerise, lime, red & yellow. The silhouettes are streamlined, with steep angles, pencil heels and pointed tips. Basic designs are furnished with zigzags & scallops, geometric shapes, ankle-cuffs and tie-up bows.

The Spanish shoe maestro is always one step ahead with his ambitious and imaginative designs. Putting a pair of Manolo's on is a sure-fire way of getting noticed. I can picture a few of these in Carrie Bradshaw's closet.

While I do appreciate the beauty of the conventional pieces, I haven't embraced the unique charm of the quirkier pairs. What are your thoughts on this collection?

Plum Summer Shoes 2011
Summer 2011 Shoe Collection
by Plum
September is almost on our doorstep, which means it's time to invest in some sexy summer heels. Plum have just launched their fabulous new range for Summer 2011, with the same exceptional quality & affordability that we have all come to love over the years. I am a Plum fan because they always on trend with the international fashion scene, and offer an extensive variety of splendid looking shoes, where everyone's tastes and personal styles are met.
Nudes
As we've seen on countless fashion sites and magazines, Nude is the new Black. The rule is that you pair any outfit, no matter the colour or style, with a pair of nude heels. It lengthens your silhouette and has a very 'uptown classy' look. I love the styling of the cream lace stockings and flair floral skirt with the perforated pumps (pictured top left). I've been searching for a decent pair for ages. Plum have some great choices with these neutral coloured heels pictured above. The laser-cut leather heels provide texture and interest, while the strappy nude sandals are perfect for a night out on the town.
Spring Colours
What would Summer be without a pop of bright dazzling colour? I love these vibrant shades; seaside blue, sunshine yellow, citrus orange, a twist of lime and ravishing red. Another trendy element incorporated into the collection is the cork-heel (pictured bottom middle). These eye-catching pairs will add a zesty finish to any outfit. Different Shapes
A huge shoe trend this season are wedges. They provide balance and comfort while still looking stylish. Not to mention they make your calves look skinnier. For those of us who are not high-heel kinda girls, Plum has created a great range of flats especially for you (top left). There is also a 'Glamour' range with evening sandals for special occasions (top right). For something unusual, there is the multi-strap Alexia with twisted rope detail, and the bejeweled ankle strap Aqua, with a mesh leather finish (both pictured bottom right).Slip into summer with these fabulous heels, as shown in more detail on the Plum website. Use the 'Store Locator' button to find a stockist closest to you.

Oscar de la Renta Winter Shoes 2011
Fall/Winter 2011-12 Shoe Collection
by Oscar de la Renta
The Dominican designer's Winter shoe collection is an exhibition of elegance and sophistication. All the pieces are wearable and somewhat safe, if not for the dash of leopard print. There is a richness to this range, provided by luxurious fabrics like fur, satin, tweed and lace, with a scattering of sequins. It's nice to see that flats and kitten heels stand their ground against sky high heels.

The violet satin heels will add a lovely pop of colour to a neutral coloured outfit. Tweed heels are embellished with feathers and beads. The lace peep-toes also come in nude.
These kitten heels are such a versatile height; great with jeans, dresses or skirts. Leopard print is a prominent theme, in every shape and style.
Tweed adds textural interest to plain black ankle boots. The tan tie-up high-heeled riding boots are a classic and trendy pair.
I would really like to see the effect of black lace boot when its worn. A forest green suede boot is an unusual addition to the collection. The black leather thigh-high boots will bring out the vampy-vixen in anyone.

Tuesday Thrills - French Sole Shoes
French Sole
Ballet Flats
My recent experiences with heels have not been good ones. I wear them only for formal occasions and after the first ten minutes, I'm limping and dragging my feet, wishing I had worn flats instead. Ideally, a pretty pair by French Sole.
Founded 22 years ago by British shoe designer, Jane Winkworth, French Sole specializes in making and selling only ballerina style shoes. These shoe gems are manufactured in Spain, making use of the best Italian and Spanish materials. Jane's designs are cute, functional and most importantly, comfortable. They cater for half sizes as well as special sizes for broader or narrower feet. Super, is there anything more we could ask for? Oh yes, French Soles are affordable too.
1. Simple in metallic. I like the graphite colour of this shoe, it's versatile and will match well with anything. It has a chocolate coloured trim. $87 or R600.
2. Sturdy in black and white. This classic quilted pair is reminiscent of Chanel's two-tone flats. An elegant addition to any outfit. $92 or R632.90
3. Annie in red and black. This tweed pair is my favourite, with it's houndstooth fabric, simple style with a punk rock edge. Also available in black & white and burgundy & olive. $131 or R904.

The house of Alexander McQueen maintained the late designer's unconventional and artistic approach to fashion with their Spring/Summer 2011 shoe range. Wearing one of these enigmatic creations is like stepping into a magical, animated garden. If fairies wore haute couture, I'm sure they would have loved these theatrical designs. Fantasy aside, these designs are inventive and have been crafted with virtuosity.
Top Row

This fanciful footwear range is available online, from about R9000. It's hard to believe that Sarah Burton, who created Kate Middleton's royal wedding gown is the mastermind behind these extravagant designs. She truly is a talented and flexible designer. All the shoes in this collection may not be functional, but they are something to revere.

Autumn/Winter Collection 2011
I had stars in my eyes (literally), when I saw the Dolce & Gabbana runway show on FTV. Stars and musical notes have never looked this grown up. Add the essential D&G animal print and sparkle, and you have an exuberant, sexy and harmonious collection for Winter 2011.

The Italian designers have turned this unexpected punk-rock print into high-end fashion. Add the essential D&G animal print and sparkle, and you have an exuberant, sexy and harmonious collection for Winter 2011.
Masculine vs Feminine
The two main themes of the show alternated between masculine and feminine designs. The colours were basic black and white, with some grey thrown in. Suits had tailored or oversized coats with large collars and lower-rise, slimmer-fitting pants. The masculine looks were enhanced with trilbies, suspenders, vests and ties. Feminine dresses were form-fitting in stretch charmeuse, lace and sheer star-print fabrics.
Chiffon and Shimmery Shades
Long chiffon dresses in yellow, turquoise and orange with pussy cat bows elevated the feminine theme. Another prominent feature on the runway was sequins - sequined dresses, tuxedo jackets, trousers and blazer lapels. Vivid purple, deep teal, gold and metallic grey added some colour to the catwalk.
The Accessories
The jewellery was a continuation of the pop-rock music theme with star-shaped earrings and neckpieces. Miniature pouches were worn on waistbands. Animal print, paillettes, chains and piano keys adorned clutches and leather handbags. Pointed-toe heels in bright shades and prints were worn with ankle socks. Brogues were given a make-over with neon colours, leopard print and sequins.

Tuesday Thrills - Christian Louboutin Pigalle Pumps
Pigalle Pumps
by Christian Louboutin
If you're going to invest in a pair of designer heels, the Pigalle 120 Pumps by Christian Louboutin is a good way to start. The classic low-cut pointed-toe design with 120mm stiletto heel is most popular in black and nude patent leather. The simple silhouette is constantly being reinvented, most recently in eye-catching colours, interesting fabrics, metallics, studs and sparkly spiked heels. They can be paired with just about anything; a casual pair of jeans, work suit or a cocktail dress.
"The design that encapsulates my career is the Pigalle, a low-cut, high-heeled pump. It's so subtle in that it adds something sexy to the body, but you don't immediately realise that it's the shoe that's making the difference." Christian Louboutin
German model Heidi Klum wears teal coloured Pigalle pumps with a cropped pair of jeans and red blouse. Spanish Model Clara Alonso wears them in basic black with a Christian Dior LBD. Actress Katie Cassidy matches her belt and clutch to her plum pumps. Sarah Jessica Parker wears the gold glittery version of the Pigalle. Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman wears a metallic gold pair of Louboutin's with a printed bustier dress.
Unlike celebs, most of us sadly can't strut our stuff in a pair of Louboutin's. However you can start a 'Pigalle Pump Savings Fund'. You will need to collect $457.49 (about R3 182) to buy the plain black patent pair on Net-A-Porter. Anything fancier and the price goes up.

Celeb Style - Tan and Leopard Print
This Week's Trends
Tan & Leopard Print
This week's style inspiration sees how leopard print and the colour tan can be worn. Tan is a wintry shade that's accessible and suits any skin tone - as shown below. It can be worn with black, white or denim. Or wear it with prints from a similar circle of colours.
I love leopard print - as long as it's worn appropriately. Too much and it starts to look tacky. If you're not keen on the leopard print clothing trend, add small aspects of it with shoes, bags, belts or scarves.

I love leopard print - as long as it's worn appropriately. Too much and it starts to look tacky. If you're not keen on the leopard print clothing trend, add small aspects of it with shoes, bags, belts or scarves.
Brittany Snow wears a tiered leopard print top with black skinny jeans and heels.
Emma Roberts wears a classic cropped suede cardigan in tan by Chanel Resort. She paired it with a white tee, black skinnies and Christian Louboutin 'Daffodil' platforms.
Zoe Saldana is stylish in a tan draped-front leather jacket and 'Stephanie' bag by Diane von Furstenburg. Her 'Angelique' jeans are by Decades Denim and leopard print pumps by Brian Atwood.
Kim Kardashian teams her tan top with a sleek black blazer with tasselled shoulders. She carries a black Chanel 2.55 flap bag and wears the very popular Louboutin 'Daffodil' platforms.
Jaime King and Nicky Hilton wore the exact same dress to the UK Style launch party. They didn't seem to mind matching and posed for photos together. The fully sequined animal print mini is by French Connection. Nicky wore it with a black belt and patent black 'Pigalle' heels by Christian Louboutin. Jaime wore it with Yves Saint Laurent shoes. I won't ask "Who wore it better?" because I find this dress too shiny and kitsch.

Lime greens, citrus orange, purple and turquoise dresses make a colourful statement. These playful pieces are designed to be worn from work to weekend.
We may not have the Versace brand readily and inexpensively available to us in SA, but we can gain some style inspiration from their easy to follow fashion range.

Cover Girl - Kim Kardashian

Harper's Bazaar March 2011
Harper's Bazaar March 2011
The gorgeous Kim Kardashian graces the cover of Harper's Bazaar March 2011 issue. Kim looks red-hot on the cover and did a Cleopatra-inspired photo shoot for the magazine. The fashion shoot pays homage to Kim's idol and the original 1963 Cleopatra, Elizabeth Taylor. The liquid gold dress (pictured right) is by Moschino. When beauty was bestowed upon women on earth, I think Kim got an extra share. An extra large share at that too.
'Cleopatra with a K' - Kim befittingly plays the the part of Egyptian Queen, with dramatic fringed bob, kohl-lined cat-eyes and ornate hairpieces. Kim's leopard print dress (top left) is by Dolce & Gabbana, with headpiece by Alexis Bittar and heels by Gucci. The gold gown (top right) is by Ralph Lauren, turquoise and gold headpiece by Lynn Bay and sandals by Casadei. The midnight blue grecian gown (bottom left) is by Salvatore Ferragamo. She wears it with a gold belt by Gucci, which is the exact same one Katy Perry wears on the cover of Elle magazine. (See this on my post below). On the bottom right photo, Kim wears a black jumpsuit by Gucci.
I wonder if we'll see a remake of Cleopatra starring Kim in the lead role? With her magnetic appeal and dynamic ambition, you never know...
